Procharge Injectors: Winterization Season Is Injector Season
Fall is a turning point for every shop that works on engines. Boats come out of the water for winter storage. Racers tear down after the season and plan next year's builds. Fleets get ready for cold-weather starts. Each of those jobs is a chance to catch fuel injector problems before they turn into expensive repairs.
Why storage season is hard on fuel systems
Many boats, mowers and seasonal vehicles sit for months on fuel that contains ethanol. Ethanol attracts moisture, and when enough water gets into the tank, the fuel can separate. Stale or contaminated fuel leaves varnish and deposits behind, and fuel injectors are among the first parts to suffer. A clogged or sticking injector can cause hard starts, rough idle, poor fuel economy and lost power when the engine comes back into service in spring.
That makes winterization the ideal time to test injectors. Technicians can spot weak spray patterns, uneven flow or leaking injectors while the boat or vehicle is already on the lift, instead of waiting for a customer to call in April with an engine that won't run right.
Marine injectors need marine-ready equipment
Marine engines often use high-amp injectors that general-purpose testers can't drive properly. Procharge Injectors developed circuit boards that handle high-amp marine injectors, and its M-5000 Marine Optimizer has become a favorite in the marine service industry. It gives shops a dependable way to test and clean marine injectors in house, so they can get boats back to customers faster.
Direct injection is changing the work
Gasoline direct injection is now common in late-model vehicles. Because direct injectors sit inside the combustion chamber, they face carbon buildup on top of ordinary fuel deposits. Testing flow and spray, cleaning thoroughly and documenting results before and after service helps shops diagnose problems with confidence and show customers exactly what they paid for.
Trade show season
The industry's biggest events are coming up. The SEMA Show runs November 3 through 6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and the PRI Trade Show follows December 10 through 12 in Indianapolis. Both are great places to see where performance and service equipment is heading. They're also a reminder that shops planning equipment upgrades for 2027 should decide before the new year.
