National Bigfoot Day, a New Documentary and the Season of the Squatch
October is the best month of the year to be a Bigfoot fan. The leaves are down, the woods are quiet and the nights are long. This year, October 20 brings National Bigfoot Day and a brand-new documentary that has the whole community talking.
Why October 20?
National Bigfoot Day marks the anniversary of October 20, 1967. That was the day Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed a large, upright figure walking along Bluff Creek in Northern California. Nearly 60 years later, that short clip is still the most famous and most debated piece of Bigfoot footage ever recorded.
A new look at the most famous film in Squatching
Capturing Bigfoot, directed by Marq Evans, opens in select theaters on October 20 and is available on Prime Video the same day. The documentary premiered at SXSW in March and takes a fresh look at the original 16mm Patterson-Gimlin film and the people behind it.
Fans should know the film takes a position. Its makers argue the footage was staged, and that claim is already stirring strong reactions. Believers and skeptics have argued over this film for decades, and a fresh look gives both sides plenty to study. The team at Bigfoot, Yowie & Yeti has spent years in the field themselves, and they know where they stand.
How to celebrate
- Watch with friends. Host a Bigfoot movie night and debate the footage frame by frame.
- Get outside. A fall evening in the woods is the perfect time to listen, look for tracks and enjoy the quiet.
- Wear your colors. Nothing says National Bigfoot Day like a Squatch tee, beanie or hoodie.
Halloween is right behind it
October 31 is the one night of the year when walking around as Bigfoot is completely normal. Bigfoot, Yowie & Yeti's hoodies, hats and accessories make an easy costume base or a fun way to show your colors at a party. The Tree Peeker line is a favorite for anyone who loves the idea of a Squatch keeping an eye on things from the forest.
